This was supposed to be a quick update, two weeks ago...

Hi everyone. This should be a fairly short blog entry, as I have homework to do this weekend. (Math and Computer Networking and Implications of IT mostly.) The first week was awful. I can't seem to get myself together. My first day, I made it to campus a little bit before Chorus started, and then spent an hour and a half in line for books. (Half an hour downstairs, and an hour upstairs. I went to the wrong line, and I was ticked about it. I bought the books online, and then had them ready for pickup at the bookstore. Unfortunately, I was oblivious to the signs that said pick up in room four something. Grrrr...) So I missed class that day, and was ten minutes late for College Algebra. Luckily, I didn't miss anything important. He talked about the syllabus and introduced himself. He actually did lecture (quite a bit) on the first section of the text. I used the book to help myself understand. So I'm upset that I missed class, but it was worth it. Then, on Wed, I overslept and made it there just as he was dismissing the Altos. On Friday, I overslept and got there just at the end of class. I was so pissed at myself. (I haven't gotten to sleep before six am any day this week, and I can't figure out what my problem is. Honestly, I've been going to bed between twelve thirty and two. It's crazy.) College Algebra is going well so far. I'm terrible at math, so I'm prepared to do a lot of extra work in this class to get a good grade. Hopefully, he'll offer bonus points for things. I can use all the help I can get. So far, our assignment is going well. There's one problem I just can't get (and I've tried it at least ten times), so I may actually get that one wrong. The others I have right. Luckily, he has it set up so you can do as many tries as you want. Basically, it gives you similar problems until you get them right. So I'm trying again and again until I get the problems right. Except for that one. And I need help with it. I went into the Math Resource Center to see if they could help me Friday, and there was a sign on the door. Closed until Jan 14th. I was ticked, as it's way out of my way. It made me walk four or five blocks out of my way, so I was NOT a happy camper. Computer Networking is going to be hard for me as well. I'm not as interested in the nuts and bolts of networks, but the Internet parts are interesting to me. Unfortunately, the professor is a fast, FAST reader, and he basically reads the power point as fast as he can go. There's no time to take notes or formulate a question. I'm hoping the text will bring me up to speed, as right now, I'm lost. He doesn't even define key terms. He just uses them and expects you to understand. Also, in that class, we have to do a presentation. (I have some social anxiety, so I don't wanna, lol.) I've emailed my group, and am waiting for a reply. In the meantime, I've worked up a power point presentation. It's savvy if I do say so myself. I hope we can use it. I still need to write speaker notes, and I'm hoping the rest of the group will help me with it. Database Management I is a class I'm really looking forward to. I'll be learning SQL, or Structured Query Language. It's the language used to build and maintain databases and data warehouses. It's my first "programming" language, so I'm all excited about it. I had no problem installing SQL Server 2012 when I went in through the link given in the syllabus. I have it installed on both my laptop and my desktop, so I can work on assignments after DMI class, and finish them at home. I just have to transfer the work via external hard drive. My Implications of IT class is gonna be fun, I think. It's at UCBA, which is a different campus of UC. It's about fifteen to twenty minutes from main campus, depending on traffic. I found my way easily, and I was glad of it. I can park very close to my classroom too, so that's good. I take my computer with me on Tuesday and Thurs, because I have a LONG break. DMI ends at a little bit after three. Implications of IT (Tues) and Computer Networking (Thurs) start at six. So I need to be able to work on homework in between. I also take my stitching, as I like to switch off. I do one thing for a bit, and then something else. Keeps my mind fresh. Implications was a VERY short class on Tuesday, which usually bothers me. In this case, though, I don't mind it. He told us, very briefly, what the class would consist of. (Quiz at the end of each chapter, and discussion.) He showed us where the syllabus was, and told us what book we'd be using. If there hadn't been a few questions, he would have let us out at ten after six. As it was, he let us go at twenty after, and that was fine with me. The reason he let us go early is that most classes will be mostly discussion. Since not everyone had read the first chapter in the book, and we hadn't seen the info he wanted us to see, there could be no discussion. So he let us go early to read, which, like I said, I was okay with. I think most class sessions will go full length, which I like. I feel like I'm getting my money's worth that way. And that's all of my classes for this term. (I was going to take Fundamentals of UNIX (an operating system similar to Windows or Mac's OSX), but they cancelled the class due to low registration. I still want to try.)

And now, the moment you've all been waiting for. On to the stitching!!! I have a LOT of projects to show this week, so I'll get right to it. Starting with Beach Romance (Janlynn). I worked on it on Sunday, and got quite a bit done. (Of course, there was football on, so that helps.) I finished up his leg, did a lot of sand around it, and did the water between his legs. I also finished up his pants. I was very pleased with the amount of stitching I got done on Sunday. It worked out well for me. Of course, my Bengals lost their playoff game, again. (It has been a long time since we won one. You have to go all the way back to 1990. Twenty two years, ouch.) And to make things even worse, while our defense played well, our offense sucked rotten eggs. They were awful. Couldn't find their butt with both hands AND a flashlight. It was quite sad. I was so ticked off, I cried. (Not that it's hard to make me cry. I'm a regular waterworks about some things.) So it wasn't the best weekend, but it was okay. I did get to see one of my other teams win, and that made me feel better.

Next up is Time To Go (Witch Stitch'n'Bits). As I told Freak a couple of weeks ago, I'm getting ready to start on her wing. Next week, most likely. I finished up the current row of ten by tens on Tuesday night, waiting for my class to start. You can't quite see the candle flame yet, but the light is there. I like the way it looks so far, except for the fact that there's a lot of brown in it. (As you know, I hate brown, lol. I have no idea what made me want to do something with so much brown in it. Really, no idea. I could have picked something else sexy, and without it. But it was something I thought he would like, so...) Anyways, the wing is at the bottom of the next set of ten by tens, and I'm ready to start it. The wings are mostly white and blue, so they're really pretty.

And I did put a few stitches into my rose. (It's no longer an ornie, lol, so I didn't know what to call it.) I really don't think it's worth a piccy, but I love to look at them, and I know some of you do too, so I'm posting one. I literally put in about ten stitches on Wed. That's it. It was before my College Algebra class started, but I only had about ten minutes. I stood outside talking to one of the other altos on Wed afternoon, so I didn't get there as early as I would have. It's still a lot of confetti, but it's moving along a little bit at a time. (Any progress is a good thing, right?!?) I love the way it looks. It's so incredibly detailed. (Hence the reason I don't complain about the confetti too much.)

Next up is Noah's Sub (Stoney Creek). I didn't get much done on it this week. I did work on it for a bit in between classes on Thursday. My earlier class got out a few minutes after three, and the night class didn't start till six. (I did do some errand running, since I was so close to where I needed to be. That took a little over an hour. Then I did a little bit of stitching, maybe fifteen minutes, before I started on the math stuff.) I also did a little bit later, as he gave us a fifteen minute break to go potty and such. I really don't need fifteen minutes to go, so I spent the rest of the time stitching. And hey, progress is progress, right??? I love the color I'm using. It's a sort of salmon pink. Very pretty. You can see where I'm working, down near the orca. (When I started this color, for some odd reason, I started crossing my stitches, and had to go back and frog them. It'll be weird when I get to the point where I’m crossing my stitches on this piece, lol.)

Next up is one of my three favorite projects, Midnight Hunting (Dracolair Creations). I had to do quite a bit of frogging on this one, but I didn't mind. Since I was still on break, I got a LOT done on it. And I love the way it's looking. The color changes are so pretty. I worked a lot on it while talking (chatting) with Dani. Well, and on the phone some, too. I talked her home from work on the train, and it was nice. I like talking to her. She has a lovely voice, and she sounds so young. So I got a lot accomplished, despite the fact that I had to frog. I had a lot of fractional stitches, and it was hard to decide which color was the dominant color. It doesn't tell you, so I had to pick for myself, and I had a hard time with that.

Then comes one of my other faves, Frost Moon(HAED, Nene Thomas). I didn’t get as much done on this as I was back in school. I did get the last set of ten by tens done, though, and started work on the next one. The blues in this so far are so pretty. And I had an occasion to talk to some Muslim Kurds. He was a Sociology student, and his wife came with him sometimes to see what he was up to. They were both very nice. I did ask them if they had met anyone who was prejudiced against them here at UC, and they said no. (Yes, I brought it up. I'm very blunt.) I was pleased by that. My city tends to be VERY conservative, and I wonder sometimes if I don't see prejudice just because I'm white. But I was glad to know they'd had no problems. That makes me happy as prejudice makes me sick. (Even in myself. I'm prejudiced against people who drink a lot. I freely admit that. But I've seen so many mean and stupid drunks; I just can't get around it. I try to not let it affect me, but it's hard. I've never gone to a bar, lol. I don't want to see it!!! I'm a bit of a teetotaler, if you can't tell.)

And that's all I've got for tonight. I'm gonna try to remember to blog each weekend, but don't hold me to it. We'll see how it goes. I hope I finish this tonight, as I still have a quiz to take. And I hope you're all having a wonderful night out there. All my best to my blogger friends, and I've said a prayer for all of you to have good lives. Well, healthy and happy, and that's the same thing. And speaking of healthy, I have to go in tomorrow for another mammogram. They found a shadow on the previous one, and they want to further investigate it. (Yes, I AM scared half to death. All I need is to have breast cancer while I'm trying to do school.) So if you have the time, and inclination, say a quick prayer for me too. (Update: I did go for my mammogram on Monday, and then they sent me for an ultrasound. It appears that the lunp I have is several benign cysts all crushed together. The whole group of them is only one millimeter, so it's not very big. Thank God for small favors.) TIA, and hagn, y'all!!

Okay, and one more thing. This is really the last thing. I have a cushion to sit on now. Some of my classmates laughed at me with it, but I really don't care. My bum doesn’t hurt, and theirs probably does. I'm good with that, lol. It's really cool looking. My mom pieced it for me. If you look at the top piccy, it's black striped with orange Bengals fabby. The Bengals fabby, I really like. She doesn't remember where she got it, though, and she only had a little bit left. So she pieced the front of it. The top stripe doesn't even go all the way across, so she covered the end of it with a piece of orange ribbon. She's a smart lady, lol, and she wanted to use as much of the fabby as I liked as she could. I love it, and it's comfy, so it's all good. And now I'm inserting my image codes, and going to bed. Y'all have a good night, and I hope you're all sleeping and having wonderful, restful dreams.

I love reading your blog posts, Julie! It feels like I'm right there with you. I hope you don't miss any more classes. The Bengals cushion looks great! I love seeing your cross stitch updates. Good for you for getting in a few stitches here and there every time you get a chance!

Sounds like your classes are keeping you hopping. I hope you get the sleep thing sorted out so you don't keep missing that class.

Good progress on your WIPs and good for you for fitting your stitching in whenever and wherever you can. I'm enjoying your progress.

So long as the Patriots lost to someone, the sun can rise again for me! Your stitching looks great, and your mom was very clever about getting to use all the fabric. I have some Chargers fabric that I want to make something with, but all my stitching skills are in cross stitch - anything else I just duck tape or staple, lol.

Sounds like you have an awful lot going on with school ad a very busy schedule, no wonder your mind ant switch off at nights. Maybe a change of bedtime routine and plan in 15 mins of quiet book reading to close your thoughts of schoolwork will help.

Great progress on you fabulous stitchy projects

I love all your comments, guys. It really makes my day. Emma, thanks for the encouragement. It makes it so much easier to know people are rooting for me. Awww, thanks Debbie. I like to read your posts too, even though I really don't have time for it atm with classes being in. I'll tell my mom I got compliments on it. I love it too. They totally are, Bea. Hopefully, I'll get another blog update written this weekend, and I can post it next weekend. I'm trying to blog more than last semester. I like progress, and got really good progress on a couple of things, so I'm happy about that. LOL, Claudette, that's about how I feel. I don't even let my friends say their name. (I make them call them those who shall not be named, or twsnbn. Dani's phone thinks that's a word now, she's used it so much, lol.) Yeah, it's been rough, Julie. IDK what to do about it. Even sleeping pills don't always work. Reading may help. I may try that, instead of going from homework and chatting to bed. I really am, Astrid. And I love being one. Thanks, but so far, I've been bad about it. I'm dropping Chorus :( I love to sing too, Ash. I don't do it as well as I used to, but I'm decent. I used to get solos all the time, but I haven't tried out for one yet this time through. (I made the small group last time, Cabaret, which was eight singers. And then I got a solo out of them, so I must have been pretty good.) Thanks again for all the comments. You guys are the bomb!!!!
