Blog Hop # 3: Goals

Okay, it's time for blog hop number three, and the question this week is all about goals:

Do you set stitching goals for yourself and how do you plan them out? (Weekly, monthly, annually?) What are your current stitching goals (if you don’t mind sharing)?
In addition to setting goals for yourself, do you have a special reward that you reserve for when you reach a stitching goal?
Yes, actually, I do set goals.  When I first started stitching, I would set a goal daily.  And I almost never seemed to make them.  It was depressing, and for someone with a depressive disorder, that's a BAD thing.  So I stopped for a long, long time.  But now I find myself setting goals that are more realistic.  For example...  I'll set a goal for a project that is smaller than my original goal would be.  In Desert Landscapes, my last rotation through, I thought to myself that for the next one, I would set the goal of finishing up part eight.  But now I'm doing SALs, so I don't have as many days to stitch on my rotation project..  So I changed it.  Finish half of part eight.  And I was good with that except...  I could hardly put the thing down.  I finished most of part eight, and was shocked.  I put in an amazing number of stitches.  Something like nineteen hundred stitches over six days.  It was also a IHSW weekend, and I spent the weekend stitching like mad!!!  Saturday and Friday I managed to get in a huge number of stitches.  Something like five hundred each day.  It was ridiculous, how much I stitched.  So I made my goal.  And this week with my ornie, I set a daily goal.  I wanted to finish up his hat.  I finished up his hat, and most of his scarf too.  Probably between three hundred and three hundred fifty stitches all told.  I've been stitching more, and getting great progress.
When I set goals, it's either a daily goal (SALs, which are worked on one day per week) or a bimonthly goal (rotation pieces, which are worked on for two weeks, Monday, Friday, Saturday).  I don't generally make weekly goals or daily goals on my rotation pieces.  Just the goal for the whole two weeks.
As for rewards, not really.  I have a chart addiction (right now it's HAEDs), and so I generally don't buy myself something for a finish.  I did recently, however, decide to reward myself for the worst thing I've ever done.  Portrait of Christ was done for my mother.  I hated him.  I did him almost all the way through, only to find out I was off in several places.  For days, it seemed like every time I went to put a stitch in, I had to frog something else.  Finally, I gave up on trying to fudge it, and decided to just burn it and start anew.  (It somehow seems appropriate to burn it.  In the Catholic church, things that are blessed shouldn't be thrown out.  They should be burned.  Jesus is cursed, but I think the same principle applies.  So eventually, the first project will get tossed in the fire pit.)  I dithered for a while about what my reward was going to be, and finally decided on skydiving lessons.  I need to save up the necessary money, but when I do, I'm ready to go.  Since it was such a big deal, I think it deserves a big deal.  (Yes, I AM an adrenaline junkie.  I just usually keep it well under control.)  Of course, there are other things I want to get (a stitching stand being one of them), so it may take me several years to save up the money.  We'll see.  But someday...  If you all want to get in on the blog hop, follow the link below.  And check out everyone who's in it so far!!

Sky diving! Wow! You are so brave - I admire you. And did you really burn Jesus? I thought that you had given him to your Mum?

Wow sky diving that would scare me absolutely to death. You are one brave or crazy (lol) gal! Bet my crazy daughter would do it too. Me I'll stay rooted to the ground. Sad to hear that your Jesus project didn't work out.
Have a great weekend :)

I can hop now, I've got exams next week but I can answer your question :)

I do not do any stitching planning... In the spur of the moment I'll grab a piece and stitch it. Sometimes it is a WIP and sometimes is a new project.

Burn it and start anew ~ I have a project in my UFO pile that could use a good burning and restarting!

It is great that you have found a system that helps you keep moving forward with your projects. That reward is a doozy though! :)

LOL, fearless, Kaye, at least with the physical stuff. Emotionally, not so much. And I gave the restarted Jesus to my mom. He's hanging in her living room. The original (on the most horrible fabby) is the one I'm going to burn. He was awful, Prim. The second one wasn't as bad, and he's hanging in mom's living room. The original was horrible. And I think it's partly both, lol. Everyone I know knows I'm a little nuts, lol. Oh, I love to plan my attack on projects I haven't started yet. I'll look at them, and decide which color I'll start with and which one will be next, and what direction I'll move in, and so on and so forth. That's basically what I did, Loretta. And originally, we were going to make it into a tray. Then she changed her mind, and so she had it reframed (he didn't even use the same foamcore board cause she cut it off and didn't bring it with her). I was almost ticked. I bought a huge piece of fabby so it would fit in the frame she bought, and then she didn't use any of it. She framed it right up against the edge of the stitching. So not only did she not use the twenty dollars that I spent to get it framed, she also didn't use the fabby I purchased for forty some dollars!! Sheesh, lol. Yeah, well Shaunterria, I never do anything by half measures!!! It's always full on!!

Maybe we should have a "burning SAL" and get rid of those UFO's that need to be destroyed and/or restarted!
